Why it matters

Read the date on your decision letter first

When a refusal arrives, people are understandably shaken. The most common mistake I see in that moment is waiting. Review deadlines are strict and are set out in your decision letter. In some cases they are very short, and the Tribunal cannot extend them.

The second most common mistake is paying the review fee without dealing with the reasons the visa was refused. A review is a fresh look at your case. It is your chance to fix the evidence, not just to disagree.

Send me the decision letter. I will tell you honestly whether a review is worth pursuing, and if it is not, what else may be possible.

At a glance

Key facts about ART review

Strict deadlines

Your time limit is stated in the decision letter. Once it passes, the right to review is usually lost.

Application fee

The ART fee for most migration decisions is $3,727 from 1 July 2026. If the review succeeds, half is refunded.

Fee reduction

A reduction may be available in cases of severe financial hardship.

Fresh decision

The Tribunal looks at the case again on the evidence before it at hearing, including new evidence.

Figures are general information current at 14 October 2026 and change regularly. They are not advice about your circumstances.

Who you'll be speaking with

I'm Nathan Joo, founder and principal director of Cornerstone Migration and a Registered Migration Agent (MARN 1173091). For nearly two decades I have worked in Australian and New Zealand migration, employer sponsorship, skilled visa pathways and workforce strategy.

I started this practice because I believe migrants deserve advice that puts their future first. You will get an honest assessment, including when the answer is that a visa is unlikely, and you will deal with me, not a call centre.

You can verify my registration on the official register of migration agents.

FAQ

Common questions

How long do I have to apply for review?

It depends on the decision and whether you are in Australia. The exact deadline is in your letter. Contact us the same day if you can.

Can I stay in Australia during the review?

If you held a bridging visa linked to the original application, it often continues while the review is on foot. Check your circumstances with us.

Is a review always the best option?

No. Sometimes a fresh application or a different visa is faster and cheaper. We will tell you which.

My student visa was refused. Is the process different?

Student visa reviews can now be decided on the papers without a hearing, so written submissions matter even more.
