A genuine relationship can still be refused
Partner visas are among the most personal applications I prepare. Couples are asked to prove, on paper, something they live every day. Many assume a genuine relationship will speak for itself. It often does not.
Refusals usually come down to evidence: gaps in the timeline, statements that don't match, finances that look separate, or a sponsor issue nobody checked. The application fee is substantial and is not refunded if the visa is refused.

Common questions
How long do we need to have been together?
Married couples do not need a minimum period. De facto couples usually need 12 months living together, unless the relationship is registered or another exception applies.
Can I apply while I am in Australia?
Often yes, through the onshore 820/801 visa, depending on your current visa and its conditions.
We have lived apart for work. Is that a problem?
Not necessarily, but it needs to be explained properly with evidence of how the relationship continued.
Can my partner work while waiting?
Onshore applicants usually receive a bridging visa with work rights while the application is processed.
