New rules commenced on 1 November 2026. Three changes matter:
- Review costs: Most new ART protection reviews require $1,863.50 upfront. Limited exemptions apply; there is no general financial-hardship waiver.
- Overseas travel: For BVB applications lodged from 1 November, a pending Class XA protection application or related merits/judicial review blocks access—even if another visa application is underway.
- BVE conditions: Conditions 8564 (no criminal conduct) and 8566 (code of behaviour) can again be imposed on certain grants under the new rules.
Before you act: Check your review deadline, fee position and travel rights before lodging or booking flights. Earlier decisions, applications and existing BVB travel permissions need individual assessment. The bridging visa amendments apply to visa applications made from 1 November 2026.
