TEMPORARY SKILL SHORTAGE VISA (SUBCLASS 482)

Overview

Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482) allows an employer to sponsor an individual, who resides outside Australia, for the purpose of filling a position with the reason of the inability to find a suitably skilled Australian fit for the position. The individual may stay in Australia between two (2) or four (4) years, depending on the stream being nominated.

This visa composes of three (3) stream, namely Short-Term stream, Medium-Term stream and Labour agreement stream.

TSS Visa has three-step process:

  1. First, Acquire a sponsorship application from an employer in Australia;
  2. Then nomination of application from the same proposed employer;
  3. Lastly, visa application from the proposed employee

SHORT-TERM STREAM

This visa allows employers to let a skilled worker live and work in Australia for a short period, in instances where they are unable to find a skilled Australian worker.

This visa allows the person to:

  • Work for up to two (2) years if sponsored, while up to four (4) years if International Trade Obligation (ITO) is present, and five (5) years for Hong Kong passport holders;
  • Study (without funds from government);
  • Travel in and out of Australia, while visa is granted and valid;
  • Apply for permanent residence if the individual is eligible.

Things to consider when applying for this visa

  • Processing
    • Application may take around 4-5 months, but the Cornerstone Migration team will exert best efforts to get it in less than the stated months.
    • Be mindful when filling the application. Avoid errors when inputting data, and always check documents to be included.
    • Pay the correct visa application charges. Application will not be process if the applicant has not paid the costs.
  • Eligibility
    • Job offered must be listed on Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)
    • Be nominated by a proposed employer.
      • If by chance the individual is granted the visa, he/she must work for the nominating employer.
    • Worked in the nominated occupation or related field for at least two (2) years and meet the requirements listed in Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZCO).
    • Have health insurance.
    • Meet the health and character requirement.
    • Extensive English language ability
      • Obtain a score of 5.0 or above in International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    • If the applicant is in Australia, they must hold a substantive visa, Bridging Visa A, Bridging Visa B, or Bridging Visa C.

MEDIUM-TERM STREAM

Compared to Short-term Stream, this visa allows employers to let a skilled worker live and work in Australia for longer period, in instances where they are unable to find a skilled Australian worker.

This visa allows the person to:

  • Work for up to four (4) years if sponsored, and five (5) years for Hong Kong passport holders;
  • Study (without funds from government);
  • Travel in and out of Australia, while visa is granted and valid;
  • Apply for permanent residence if the individual is eligible.

  • Eligibility
    • Job offered must be listed on Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
    • Be nominated by a proposed employer.
      • If by chance the individual is granted the visa, he/she must work only for the nominating employer.
    • Worked in the nominated occupation or related field for at least two (2) years and meet the requirements listed in Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZCO).
    • Have health insurance.
    • Meet the health and character requirement.
    • Extensive English language ability
      • Obtain a score of 5.0 or above in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and no grade below 5 in components in the test.
    • If the applicant is in Australia, they must hold a substantive visa, Bridging Visa A, Bridging Visa B, or Bridging Visa C.

LABOUR AGREEMENT STREAM

Allows skilled workers and employers to enter in a Labour Agreement. The said agreement is developed by a department in the Australian Government and employers.

This visa allows the person to:

  • Work for up to four (4) years if sponsored, depending on the terms of the agreement, and five (5) years for Hong Kong passport holders;
  • Study (without funds from government);
  • Travel in and out of Australia, while visa is granted and valid.

Things to consider when applying for this visa

  • Processing
    • Processing time may depend on different circumstances, but the Cornerstone Migration team will exert best efforts to get the visa in the earliest possible time.
    • Be mindful when filling the application. Avoid errors when inputting data, and always check documents to be included.
    • Pay the correct visa application charges. Application will not be process if the applicant has not paid the costs.
  • Eligibility
    • Job offered must be in a labour agreement between Commonwealth and the nominator.
    • Be nominated by a proposed employer.
    • Worked in the nominated occupation or related field for at least two (2) years
    • Have an adequate health insurance.
    • Meet the health and character requirement.
    • Extensive English language ability. Requirements may be stated in the Labour Agreement.
