This visa allows the person to:
- Live in Australia indefinitely;
- Work and study in Australia;
- Register in Medicare, Australia’s public healthcare system;
- Sponsor eligible relatives, subject to the requirements of their visa pathway;
- Travel to and from Australia using the initial five-year travel facility; later travel may require a Resident Return visa or Australian citizenship;
- And if eligible, apply for Australian citizenship.
Things to consider when applying for this visa
- Processing
- Processing times vary. Check the current Home Affairs processing-time guide; a published estimate is not a guaranteed decision date.
- Be mindful when filling the application. Avoid making errors when inputting data, and always check documents to be included.
- Pay the correct visa application charges. Application will not be process if the applicant has not paid the costs.
- Eligibility
- Generally, be under 45 when you apply, unless an applicable exemption is available.
- The nominated occupation and previous sponsored employment must meet the TRT nomination rules. Do not assume the Direct Entry occupation-list test applies to TRT.
- Generally, you must have completed at least two years of eligible full-time sponsored employment in Australia in the three years before applying. Eligible employment with more than one approved sponsor may count. Your current nominating employer and the employment periods must meet the TRT rules; see the current Home Affairs TRT requirements.
- You must hold an eligible subclass 457 or 482 visa, or an eligible bridging visa associated with a qualifying application. Holding a bridging visa alone does not establish TRT eligibility.
- Meet the competent English requirement, unless an applicable exemption is available. Check the accepted evidence and test validity for your circumstances.
- Meet the health and character requirement.
Cost
Temporary Residence Transition Stream (Subclass 186) incurs the following costs:
- Visa charges change. Check the current application charge and any additional applicant or instalment charges on the official visa page before lodging.
- Pay additional cost for family member who wishes to apply for the visa with the main applicant.
- Second instalment will be charged if there are relatives who are 18 above who wishes to apply with the main applicant and has less than Functional English.
- There are also other payments, not part of the costs mentioned above, for health checks, biometrics, and police certificates.
