Mechanical Engineer Technician

Mechanical Engineering Draftspersons and Technicians assist in mechanical engineering research, design, manufacture, construction, operation and maintenance of machines, manufacturing equipment, mechanical installations, and facilities. Their main tasks include preparing drawings, plans, and designs for mechanical engineering work under the direction of Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Technologists. They also assist Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Technologists in the design of mechanical equipment and plant.

Mechanical Engineering Draftspersons and Technicians work in most parts of Australia. They mainly work in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; Manufacturing; and Other Services. *This is a very small occupation employing 4,800 workers. The number of workers has fallen over the past 5 years.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree or higher is usually required. Relevant experience or on-the-job training is also needed. Registration or licensing may also be required.
